Our flagship George Bishop London Dry Gin celebrates the legacy of a local stalwart of British industry. Maidstone’s spirit-making history reaches back to the 18th century, when pioneering Maidstone citizen George Bishop established the first Maidstone Distillery in the town centre.
From travelling to Holland to learn the traditional craftsmanship of the Dutch Genever-makers, to successfully petitioning the UK Parliament to enshrine several Gin Acts into law, George Bishop was a firebrand in the spirit-making world. It wasn’t long before he had changed the course of the UK gin industry, crafting internationally renowned spirits. His spirits were so well-respected that they even feature amongst items representing ‘the best of British’ in a satirical cartoon featuring Napolean – James Gilray’s ‘The Handwriting Upon The Wall’, which is featured on our George Bishop London Dry Gin bottles.

Inspired by the 18th century recipes that were popular in George Bishop’s time, our blend of 15 exotic botanicals is expertly distilled into our flagship spirit. Botanicals
Juniper
The central botanical to a London Dry Gin. We source three kinds of juniper from three locations, each bringing with it its own robust, piney flavour.
Sweet and Bitter Orange
The balance gives the gin its chewy, citrus mouthfeel. Thirst quenching and sweet, we source ours solely from Spain, where they thrive in the glorious sunshine.
Cinnamon
Brings a warm and spicy edge to the palate. Sweet, woody and reminiscent of the taste and smell of cloves.
Star Anise
Bringing just enough, but not too much, of an aniseed edge. Another sweet botanical reminiscent of licorice.
English Chamomile
Reminiscent of our countryside, brings a mellow and silky mouthfeel. Sweet like honey and floral on the nose.
