Located central to the County Town of Kent, Maidstone Distillery is situated in the historic and beautiful setting of the Market Buildings and old Corn Exchange. 

We are an award-winning artisan craft distillery that currently produce three fantastic spirits: two gins and a liqueur. We are immensely proud that our flagship spirit, George Bishop London Dry Gin, was awarded a gold medal at the 2022 LSC and was also winner of the 2021 Kent Spirit of the Year Award.

Maidstone has a fascinating history of distilling dating as far back as the 18th Century, and it is this alongside our own personal desire to create unique and delicious spirits, that makes us so unique. 

Location: Work from home, office Maidstone ME14 1HP
Start date: ASAP
Hours: Part time 20 hours. Flexible hours but ideally with hours Monday to Friday
Salary: Starting from £10/hour
Benefits: Pension, 20 days holiday plus public holidays pro rata, employee discounts, twice annual employee events, mileage and expenses reimbursed.

DESCRIPTION OF VACANCY:

We are looking for a Distillery Administrator with experience of bookkeeping, administration and proficiency using Quickbooks. Our distillery is a dynamic, busy and fun place to work. We have the usual business requirements such as payroll and VAT, but also industry specific areas of administration such as duty returns and warehouse keeping. Experience in distillery specific areas such as these would be advantageous but full training can be given.

The role is 20 hours per week and these can be flexible, ideally you would have some hours every day Monday to Friday to be able to manage emails and daily tasks.

As a Bookkeeper/Administrator, you will be reporting directly to the Managing Director. Previous experience within the professional services or construction industry is desirable. Experience with Quickbooks accounting software is a “must-have”.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Managing weekly sales and purchase invoices.
· Producing client statements
· Monthly VAT returns
· Bank reconciliation
· Ordering
· Private event management
· Liaising with suppliers and customers when necessary
· Warehouse returns, W5s and W21s etc
· General bookkeeping duties
· Office administration duties
· Preparing pay roll and pension deductions

SKILLS REQUIRED:

· Minimum of 1 – 2 years’ experience in bookkeeping. Experience within the professional services or construction industry is desirable.
· Mastery in verbal and written communication of the English language
· Attention to detail
· Experienced in using Quickbooks
· Experience in HR such as payroll
· Experience producing VAT returns – bank reconciliation and allocating expenditure

Legacy

We are reinstating the tradition of Maidstone pioneer and master distiller, George Bishop, who created quality and world-renowned spirits from our county town back in 1785. We are reclaiming our forgotten heritage to produce spirits of depth, meaning and character that we can all be proud of. He was a champion of the people and it’s time for his legacy to be tasted again.
